Land grant for 200 acres, Orangeburgh District, S.C., 1795 Aug. 11-Sept. 7

Two sheets, originally connected by twine, recording that Ruth Drennan paid nine shillings and four pence for 200 acres situated in Orangeburg District along north bank of the South Edisto River and between the head waters of "Reave's branch" and "Spur branch"; includes plat showing that the property included "Steer Pen Pond" and was bounded on all sides by vacant land. Signed by Gov. Arnoldus Vanderhorst; other officials mentioned include Nath[anie]l Walker, Deputy Surveyor, and [F.Z.?] Waring, "Sem. Gen[era]l," and "Peter Bremar, pro Secretary."

Christ Church Parish, S.C. plantation owner and politician. Among other properties, Vanderhorst owned houses in Charleston (S.C.) and a plantation on Kiawah Island (S.C.). He was elected as a state representative for his parish in 1772 and afterwards held many political offices, including Governor of South Carolina from 1794 to 1796.
